Elements of Volunteerism

Sacrifice

Sacrifice as an element of volunteerism is simply the act of giving up something valuable in order to attain a desired objective of being part of the process of making life better or less difficult for others. Volunteering requires a great deal of sacrifice which requires the willingness to sacrifice one's time, energy, money and other resources as well as stepping outside one’s comfort zone in the effort to make a difference in the life of others.

Support

Volunteering endeavours needs the ceaseless support from individuals, corporate bodies and even the political authorities. Individuals or groups volunteering to provide solutions and causing positive change in society should be acknowledged and encouraged. Well meaning individuals; groups or political authorities should support such endeavours financially; if the means is available or through technical or intellectual supports and and other invaluable contribution like prayers.

Service

The foundation of volunteerism is empathy which drives the passion for service as a necessary element of volunteerism. Service driven by sincere empathy keeps this question alive in one’s mind; what can I do in my own small way to contribute to making life better or less difficult for others and contributing to the improvement one’s immediate environment.

Selflessness

Selflessness is an element of noble volunteerism which drives the desire to make life better or less difficult for others, especially those who are incapacitated or underprivileged.
